All of our birthdays are within 3 weeks of each others spanning from mid-September to early October. And sharing our birthdays all together was actually the main reason that I wanted to extend Milo and my stay in Bahrain. Taking the version of FMLA leave that I did, allowed us to be together for all the cake eating, smiles, and wild moments of having our birthdays together while taking some sweet day trips to celebrate our special days.
Here are the Bahrain day trips that have been perfect for our celebrations thus far:
- The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Waterpark: For my birthday we went here and on an evening in the middle of the week there were almost no other people! We had the waterpark almost to ourselves and Milo got to get acquainted with waterslides and a lazy river. AHHH. Within the first half an hour we thought we made an epic mistake as Milo immediately communicated his dislikes of the lazy river. But after we ate dinner our little man found some small water slides that he wound up LOVING. Plus, he seemed to really enjoy watching Adam and I go down the big waterslides as he would cheer and narrate the whole descent down the water slide. It was awesome. There were lots of space that small humans like Milo could safely enjoy while also having some pretty terrifying slides (like one where the floor drops out from underneath, to begin the ride) for us. During weekdays this waterpark has much better deals and as the fall days roll in- this can be a perfect time to visit the park.
- Bahrain Fort: This was not a birthday trip but still one of my favorite day trips as it was so interactive. I had been here with Adam years ago but bringing Milo to this cool archaeological sight was even better than we explored it the first time. We explored the little rock rooms, went under arches, and Milo spent most of our time admiring and moving “heavy rocks under tent” haha or his version of saying I’m putting the rocks under this arch! It was so cool. The view is also something that won’t be forgotten; as we looked across the stones that made up the old fort we could see Manama’s skyline in the distance. Ending the day at the Fort’s cafe was delicious and beautiful. I would definitely recommend this as a day trip for anyone with toddlers and up in Bahrain.
- Al Alreen Wildlife Park and Reserve: This was Milo’s birthday trip and although hot was INCREDIBLE. The only hitch with this reserve is that it closes at 5, which doesn’t leave much room to enjoy the animals during the cool parts of the day. And although this wildlife reserve doesn’t have the most animals- it has so many interactive activities where we could play and see animals with Milo. We had birds climb all over our heads, pet ponies, and played on the playground to help bring in his 2nd year. It was so sweet!
We have one more birthday left on the horizon and are looking forward to spending this one together too.
